Southern Reserve Fishing Hall of Fame
Do you think your latest catch is worth an entry in our Fishing Hall of Fame? Submit your photo (s) to the Southern Reserve Fishing Hall of Fame! Contact Jeff Flinn (click here) if you have an entry!
*You do not have to catch a gar to enter the Fishing Hall of Fame*
ATTENTION FISHERMEN/WOMEN: the latest flooding from Polecat Creek into the West pond brought several unwanted Gar. As you might know, Gar will eat just about anything they can get their teeth into, and could devastate our Catfish population. The only way to get rid of the unwanted Gar is to fish them out. Southern Reserve is counting on you skilled fishermen/women to catch them. If you catch a Gar, please DO NOT throw back into the ponds.
Here are a few tips:
- You will want to use live fish for bait (shad or small carp)
- A wire leader to protect against their teeth breaking the line
- Once the Gar has taken the bait, you will need to wait a little to set the hook because they don't like the bait like bass. Apparently, they chew on it and swallow pieces.
Good luck and report back if you see Gar or catch one. You will earn a place in the Southern Reserve Fishing Hall of Fame!
